Abstract:

China’s chip industry has been disciplined in the “mainstream CPU” architecture, and there is still a big gap with developed countries in terms of overall ecology. The emergence of RISC-V, an open source instruction set architecture based on the principle of reduced instruction sets, provides a new opportunity for the development of “mainstream CPU” in China. The open source RISC-V is characterized by advanced architecture and customizability, with its ecology in its infancy. Therefore, it is beneficial to China’s efforts to take the initiative in chip industry development in the new era of intelligent interconnection. It is suggested that China actively seize the opportunity of the times, plan the development of the chip industry from a global perspective, focus on the open source RISC-V architecture to develop “mainstream CPU”, build a solid foundation for basic software, accelerate its ecological construction, and promote the arrival of a new pattern of the global chip industry.
